Drywall FAQ

Answers to the questions Greenville homeowners ask us most.

How much does drywall installation cost in Greenville SC?

Most Greenville residential drywall installation runs $1.50–$3.00 per finished square foot, with finish level, ceiling height, and board thickness driving the final number. We provide written, line-itemed estimates within 24 hours of a free in-home consultation.

Do you serve areas outside Greenville?

Yes — we serve Spartanburg, Anderson, Greer, Mauldin, Simpsonville, Easley, Taylors, Fountain Inn, Travelers Rest, Piedmont, and Powdersville across Upstate SC.

Are you licensed and insured in South Carolina?

Absolutely. Drywall Greenville is fully licensed and insured in South Carolina with $2M general liability and full workers' compensation coverage on every employee.

How long does a typical drywall repair take?

Most small patches take 1–2 short visits across a day for drying. Single-room refinishes typically run 3–5 working days. Full new-build installations average 6–8 working days for a 2,500 sq ft home.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes — every estimate is free, on-site, and delivered in writing within 24 hours. No fees, no pressure, no obligation.

Can you match my existing wall texture?

Yes. Texture matching is a core skill — knockdown, orange peel, skip trowel, and hand-applied finishes. We always test on a small panel before working in the main area.

Do you work with insurance companies on water damage claims?

Yes — we bill directly to most major carriers (State Farm, Allstate, USAA, Liberty Mutual, Travelers, and others) and format estimates to match Xactimate standards.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash, check, all major credit cards, ACH transfer, and most home improvement financing programs. Deposits on larger jobs are typically 25% upfront, balance on completion.

Do you do popcorn ceiling removal?

Yes — including pre-1980 asbestos testing coordination, full removal, and your choice of smooth or knockdown refinish.

How quickly can you start on my project?

Small repairs in the Greenville metro often schedule within 3–7 days. Larger projects typically schedule 2–4 weeks out. Emergency water damage calls get same- or next-day response.

What's the difference between drywall and sheetrock?

'Sheetrock' is the U.S. Gypsum brand name for drywall, similar to how Kleenex refers to facial tissue. They're the same product.

Will drywall dust harm my HVAC system?

Fine drywall dust can clog HVAC filters quickly. We seal HVAC vents in work areas during the project, and we recommend changing your filter immediately after we finish.

Can drywall be installed in cold weather?

Yes, but joint compound needs at least 50°F to cure properly. In Greenville winters we may add a day or two for drying.

Is drywall recyclable?

Yes — gypsum is recyclable, and we partner with Greenville-area waste haulers that process drywall debris.

What's mold-resistant drywall?

Purple board (Gold Bond XP, USG Mold Tough) contains mold inhibitors in the gypsum core and paper face. We recommend it for all Greenville bathrooms and laundry rooms.

How thick should drywall be?

1/2" is standard for walls; 5/8" Type X is required for garages and is a smart upgrade for ceilings and any wall on 24" stud centers.

Can you install drywall in one day?

Hanging a small room can finish in a day, but full finish (3 coats + sanding + prime) takes 4–6 days minimum due to drying time.

What's a Level 5 finish?

An additional thin skim coat applied over the entire wall surface, on top of standard Level 4 finishing. Reserved for raking-light walls, dark paint, and semi-gloss finishes.

Do I need to be home during the work?

Not necessarily — many of our customers leave us with a key or garage code. We're fully insured and bonded.

How do you protect my floors?

Heavy canvas drop cloths over every floor surface in the work area, plus rosin paper on hardwood for longer projects.

What's the dustiest part of a drywall project?

Sanding. We use Festool vacuum-shrouded sanders and HEPA shop vacs to minimize airborne dust, but expect some film on baseboards.

Can I paint over a fresh patch right away?

Wait at least 24 hours after the final coat of joint compound dries before priming, and 48–72 hours before topcoat paint.

Do you do exterior drywall?

Drywall is interior-only. For exterior sheathing or board work, we refer to local siding and exterior trim specialists.

What payment terms do you offer?

25% deposit on jobs over $2,000, balance on completion. Cash, check, all major credit cards, and ACH accepted.

Do you offer financing?

Yes — we partner with Hearth and Synchrony for home improvement financing on projects over $2,500.
